My name is Samsum and my last name is Kashfi. I was born in Estahban, Iran in 1955.  My first poems were published in my high school newsletter.  In 1973, when I entered university, I began my literary efforts by writing a series of literary reviews and programs for radio.  But poetry is my true love and I consider myself an eternal student of the school of poetry.  After a long journey, my family and I immigrated to Canada in 1987 and since then I have been very active in promoting Iranian culture outside of the country and campaigning for freedom of expression and thought in Iran.

  3. Parseh Dar Koocheh Haaye Baagh e Mou (Walking in the Back Alleys of the Grape Garden), a series of short stories.  

Currently I am the editor of the Iranians Weekly Newspaper's Poetry Page, printed in Washington D.C. and distributed across the eastern coast of the United States.

I have also written numerous articles for various Persian publications, My other  noteworthy literary accomplishments include:

  • Zeen Ghand-e Parsi (From the Persian Sugar), a glance at 1000 years of poetry in Iran.  Excerpts of this book were published in Shahrvand Publication in Toronto and Vancouver on a weekly basis from 1996 to 1998.  Zeen Ghand-e Parsi briefly examines Persian poetry in the one thousand year span beginning with the works of Abuhafs Soghdi and ending with the works of Nima Yushish.  (Unpublished) 

  • Pesaraan-e Africa (The sons of Africa), Persian translations of short stories by contemporary African writers.  (Unpublished)

  • Nafas –e gol –e sorkh (The Breath of Red Rose), Persian translations of poems by Langston Hughes, the American poet who died in 1962.  (Unpublished)

 I also contributes articles to various Persian-language publications and Internet sites on a regular basis.
